BATON ROUGE ? The LSU gymnastics squad held their ground in the national rankings this week, coming in at No. 7 for the second straight week.
LSU has a team average of 195.635 after defeating Kentucky, 195.075-191.200, last Friday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The top seven spots in the rankings remained the same from the previous poll. Georgia (196.820) stayed on top, followed by Utah (196.794), Florida (196.475), Alabama (196.256), Michigan (196.225), Oklahoma (195.715) and LSU.
Oregon State (195.562), UCLA (195.531) and Arkansas (195.387) round out the top 10.
In individual events, LSU gained some ground on the bars, jumping three spots to No. 5 with a team average of 48.955. LSU fell from No. 2 to No. 6 on the floor with an average score of 49.030. The team also slipped on the vault and the beam, falling to No. 9 and No. 16, respectively.
Individually, Ashleigh Clare-Kearney is ranked No. 4 in the nation in the all-around, with a score of 39.481. Last week, Clare-Kearney was ranked second in the nation. Utah’s Nina Kim and Ashley Postell hold the top two all-around spots, followed by Florida’s Melanie Sinclair.
Clare-Kearney is also ranked No. 4 on the vault with an average of 9.915. The junior from Manchester, Conn. also placed No. 18 on the beam (9.820) and No. 19 on both the floor (9.85) and bars (9.840).
The Tigers continue their SEC slate on Friday, Feb. 8 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center when they host No. 15 Auburn and West Virginia in a tri-meet. The action will begin at 7 p.m.
