MALIBU, Calif. — After a dominant 6-1 victory over Long Beach State, the LSU women’s tennis team travels to Malibu, Calif., for its second match on the West Coast to take on 19th-ranked Pepperdine at 3:30 p.m. CT Monday.
In the match against Long Beach, LSU (2-0) swept all six singles matches. The Lady Tigers were led once again by senior Tiffany Tucker, who is tops on the team with 11 wins, including nine in a row. Eighth-ranked Megan Falcon also continues to lead the team from the No. 1 slot as the junior from Alameda, Calif., defeated Long Beach’s Hannah Grady in three sets to push her overall record to 10-2.
In doubles, LSU’s 30th-ranked duo of Mykala Hedberg and Staten Spencer possess a 7-2 record, including four wins in a row.
The match against Pepperdine figures to be LSU’s toughest test of the young season as the Waves come in with a 1-2 record and a No. 19 ranking. Both of Pepperdine’s losses have come against teams ranked in the top 10 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.
“Pepperdine is a traditionally top-notch team,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “It is going to be a heck of a tough match for us, but we are excited for the opportunity.”
The Lady Tigers are 1-4 all time against Pepperdine, with the lone win coming in 2000 when LSU won 5-4 to advance to the NCAA Championships Sweet 16.
After the match against the Waves, LSU will travel to Irvine, Calif., to take on UC-Irvine Tuesday.
