ATHENS, Ga. — For the second straight day, three LSU divers qualified for the finals Friday afternoon in the Georgia Diving Invitational at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
The women’s squad highlighted the day with two top-six finishes in the 3-meter springboard. Sophomore Rachel Ware was LSU’s highest finisher by placing third with 277.90 points. The All-American finished fourth in the 1-meter finals on Thursday. Senior Paige Brown tallied 270.70 to come in sixth place. Both Lady Tigers will take part in the shootout tonight.
On the men’s side, Mike Neubacher reached the finals of the 1-meter springboard and placed 11th with 286.50 points. Nathan Schrieber and Niko Dalman posted prelim scores of 226.70 and 222.75, respectively.
“The women did a fantastic job today in the 3-meter,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Rachel has been steady at this event. She has been competing and performing very well. She has not put everything together yet, but I wouldn’t expect that at this point in the season.”
The final event for the meet will take place Saturday morning where the participants will compete in one round on the platform.
“One of the most important aspects of coming to this event is getting a competitive experience in the platform event,” Shaffer commented. “We look to carry on the success we have had so far into the final day. It has the potential to be our strongest day. This will be a warm up for the postseason.”
