BATON ROUGE — Track stars Richard Thompson and Samantha Henry were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week on Wednesday following a vote by a local media panel.
Thompson, a junior from Cascade, Trinidad, made history at the Razorback Invitational last weekend, breaking his own school record in the 60-meter dash with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 6.62 seconds. Thompson’s time ties him with Clemson’s Travis Padgett for the fastest time in the NCAA this season. It also ranks as the sixth-fastest time in the world this year.
Henry posted the world’s fastest time in the 200 meters this season at the Razorback Invitational. The sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica, circled the track in blazing 23.09 speed, beating out a pair of All-Americans for the win. The race, Henry’s first 200 of the season, automatically qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the event where she will also be participating in the 60-meter dash.
