ATHENS, Ga. — Three LSU divers qualified for the finals of their respective events at the Georgia Diving Invitational Thursday afternoon at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Rachel Ware was LSU’s highest finisher as she placed fourth in the 1-meter springboard with a 266.75 mark. The sophomore All-American took the runner-up position on the prelims by scoring a 272.40. Senior Paige Brown scored a prelim mark of 208.50 to finish 22nd.
On the men’s side, junior Niko Dalman and freshman Michael Neubacher reached the finals of the 3-meter springboard. Dalman placed seventh by scoring a 330.35, while Neubacher placed ninth with a 311.10 mark. Junior Nathan Schreiber hit a prelim score of 252.65.
“It was exciting to see three of our Tigers reach the finals,” said LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Respectively, we had a good performance and are on par. We are not at a level where we are peaking. At this particular part in the season we have some fine tuning to do. I hope we carry the momentum from today into the rest of the competition.”
Ware will compete in a shootout Thursday evening. The top six male and female divers will take part in the shootout, which will consist of the same events from the afternoon.
Shaffer said the shootout will not count towards the divers point totals but just meant to be an “exciting format” for the participants.
Action will resume on Friday at 11 a.m. CT. with the prelims of the men’s 1-meter and the women’s 3-meter. Finals will take place at 1:45 p.m.
