Idle Men’s Tennis Moves to No. 18 in ITA Rankings

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team moved up one spot in the national rankings this week to No. 18, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Tuesday.

The Tigers were originally schedule to open the season on Tuesday against Southern Miss and Southern but expected inclement weather conditions forced the matches to be postponed. The matches were moved to Sunday, Feb. 17 when LSU will face Southern Miss at noon and Southern at 5 p.m.

The Tigers’ new dual season opener will be Feb. 5 in a doubleheader against UL-Lafayette at 1 p.m. followed by Centenary at 6 p.m. at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.

The Southeastern Conference was well represented in the rankings with six teams in the top 25. Defending national champion Georgia is the highest ranked conference team at No. 2. Following Georgia is Ole Miss (No. 5), Alabama (No.12), Florida (No. 13) and Tennessee (No. 24).

Six out of LSU’s 10 non-conference opponents this season are listed in the current rankings, including No. 8 Illinois and No. 3 Ohio State.
