Women’s Tennis Travels to Tulsa for First Dual Match

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team travels to Tulsa, Okla., to open the dual season against the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The Lady Tigers are led by Megan Falcon, a junior ranked No. 8 nationally in singles. Falcon enters the match with an 8-2 record after the fall and last weekend’s competition in the UVa Team Invitational where she went 3-0. LSU is also led by senior Tiffany Tucker, who currently holds a seven-match win streak. Tucker also leads the team in victories with a 9-5 record heading into the match against Tulsa.

In doubles, juniors Mykala Hedberg and Staten Spencer lead LSU, as they enter Sunday’s match with a 5-2 record and ranked No. 30 in the nation.

Tulsa (5-0) is coming off a 5-2 victory over Ole Miss Friday and is led in wins by sophomore Jie Zeng and freshman Alexandra Kichoutkin who both have four victories in dual play.

LSU and Tulsa have met every year since 2001, with the Lady Tigers holding a 5-2 advantage in the series, including a 6-1 victory last season in Baton Rouge.

“Tulsa is a very good team,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “They won Conference USA last season and made the NCAA tournament. I expect a tough match against them. Every year is a new year, so we have to go out there and prove ourselves on the court.”

Tulsa features live video on its six courts, so Lady Tiger fans wanting to follow the match live can do so at the following link: http://www.jonsanjuan.com/tulsatennis.htm.

After facing the Golden Hurricane, LSU will travel to the West Coast for a three-match swing against Long Beach State on Feb. 2, Pepperdine on Feb. 4 and UC-Irvine on Feb. 5.
