BATON ROUGE — Former LSU men’s tennis player Danny Bryan has rejoined the team as a student assistant, LSU head coach Jeff Brown announced this week. Bryan played for the Tigers the past four seasons.

Bryan will join Brown and associate head coach Mark Booras in coaching the Tigers this season.

“It is a great honor to come back to work for the school I played for and get to coach alongside Jeff and Mark,” Bryan commented. “I am very thankful for the opportunity to help these guys have a great year. I also hope to learn a lot from Jeff and Mark about coaching.”

Bryan should be a great asset to the LSU coaching staff as he put on an impressive campaign as a Tiger from 2003-07.

Bryan was co-captain for the Tigers his junior and senior year. The four-year letterman sits tied for 14th place on the LSU career singles wins list with 84. He was selected as a doubles ITA All-American last season. Bryan compiled 110 career doubles wins.

The New Orleans native’s leadership skills were exemplified off the court as well as he was named the 2007 ITA/Arthur Ashe Jr. for Leadership and Sportsmanship award winner. He was selected as the 2007 LSU Male Volunteer of the Year and received SEC Community Service team honors three times.

“We are very fortunate to have Danny rejoin our tennis program,” said Brown. “He was such a big part of our success as a player and he will prove to be as successful as a coach. Coaching runs in his blood because his grandfather and parents all coached tennis. He approaches this job with a great deal of tennis knowledge and class.”

The Tigers open the 2008 dual season on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in a double header against Southern Miss at 2 p.m. and Southern at 6 p.m.
