HOUSTON — The No.19-ranked LSU women’s swimming and diving team will close out the regular season this weekend when it travels to Houston for a two-day double-dual meet with Houston and Rice.

The meet, which will be held at the CRWC Natatorium, begins Friday at 5 p.m. and continues at 10 a.m. Saturday. Friday’s action will feature 10 events, while Saturday will showcase nine.

This contest marks the fourth-consecutive year these three teams have faced one another in a two-day meet. Last season, UNO joined the competition and LSU defeated all three teams in Baton Rouge.

“This meet gives us a chance to swim every event,” LSU head coach Adam Schmitt said. “This time of year you are starting to rest and get ready for SEC’s and NCAA’s, so it is good to have one final meet where I can see everybody in all the NCAA events.”

The Lady Tigers (6-3) faced fourth-ranked Texas A&M in Baton Rouge in their last meet where the Aggies won by a 178-119 mark. Sophomore Rachel Ware and senior Paige Brown owned the springboards against the Aggies as Ware took first place in the 1-meter (298.50) and Brown finished first in the 3-meter (304.05).

The Cougars (8-5) enter this weekend’s competition coming off a 140-91 loss at SMU last Saturday.

The Owls hold an 8-3 record this season and defeated North Texas, 154-134, in their last dual meet.

LSU has won 16-straight dual meets against Houston, a streak that dates back to the 1990-91 season. The Lady Tigers’ last lost to the Cougars came on Jan. 13, 1990. The schools have competed against each other in each of the past 24 seasons dating back to 1983.

The Lady Tigers hold a dominating 23-3 record against the Owls.

“Having this meet home and away for the past four years has been a great competition for the programs involved,” Schmitt commented. “We know Rice has a few NCAA qualifiers and Houston has some girls that are close and are notorious for having good divers. There should be a lot good races the next two days to help us prepare for the postseason.”
