BATON ROUGE — LSU standout Ashleigh Clare-Kearney was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday by the conference office. The league honor is her first of the season and the fourth of her career.
Clare-Kearney, a junior from Manchester, Conn., won her third all-around title in as many meets this season, notching a 39.550 in the Tigers’ win over Arkansas last Friday.
En route to the all-around victory, Clare-Kearney either won outright or shared each of the meet’s four individual event titles. She won the vault with a 9.925, the floor with a 9.900 and shared the bars and beam titles with scores of 9.875 and 9.850, respectively.
Clare-Kearney, who is ranked No. 1 nationally in the all-around along with Florida’s Melanie Sinclair, has now won three all-around titles and 10 individual event titles in three meets this season.
The Tigers gymnastics team returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Athens, Ga., for a dual meet with Georgia at 3 p.m.
