BATON ROUGE — Mike Slive, commissioner of the Southeastern Conference and the 2007 coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series, will be in attendance to present the SEC and BCS trophies to the LSU Tigers at the National Championship Celebration at Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
The celebration begins at 2:30 p.m. and gates will open at 1 p.m. Admission is free. The event will be held in Tiger Stadium rain or shine. Fans are encouraged to wear purple and gold.
The celebration will include the presentation of all championship and individual trophies won this year by the LSU football team, video highlights of the football season, performances by the Tiger Marching Band and comments from dignitaries, head coach Les Miles and Tiger players.
The day will conclude with the hoisting of a new National Championship flag to fly over Tiger Stadium.
Fans are encouraged to visit Celebration Central at Tiger One Village beginning at noon in front of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The band After 8 will begin playing at noon. Food and drink will be available for purchase and official national championship merchandise will be on sale.
Tailgating on the LSU campus is encouraged and LSU is urging fans to arrive early. Touchdown Village 2 will be available at 5 p.m. on Friday for motor home parking.
Lot H on the east side of Tiger Stadium is available for handicap parking with the presentation of a valid state issued handicap parking pass.
LSU advises fans that, due to the expected large attendance, this event is not intended to be an autograph opportunity. LSU encourages fans to bring still and video cameras to record the event for their remembrance of the occasion.
