BATON ROUGE — LSU freshman Taryne Boudreau proved to be one of the top performers on one of the nation’s elite midfield units this fall and has been rewarded for her efforts by being named a Freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz Magazine.
The native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, received third-team honors from the publication after signing with the Tigers as a Soccer Buzz Top International Recruit for the Class of 2007.
Boudreau helped lead the Tigers to their first ever SEC Western Division championship and berth into the second round of the NCAA Tournament after starting all 24 matches at center midfielder. She has also been named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and Soccer Buzz Central Region All-Freshman Team after finishing the season with three goals, seven assists and 13 points.
Earlier this month, Boudreau took part in a training camp with the full Canadian National Team in Oxnard, Calif., as it prepares to compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
She has been a member of the Under-20 Canadian National Team for the past two years and is preparing to represent her country in the qualifying stages for the 2008 U-20 Women’s World Cup in May. She will then travel with the squad to Chile to compete in the World Cup beginning Nov. 20, 2008. The tournament is scheduled to run through Dec. 7.
Boudreau becomes the fourth Tiger to earn All-America honors this season as she joins sophomores Michelle Makasini, Malorie Rutledge and Rachel Yepez, who were named honorable mention All-Americans by Top Drawer Soccer last month.
This marks the second straight year that LSU has had one of its newcomers named a Soccer Buzz Freshman All-American as defender Chelsea Potts was a second-team selection and Makasini earned fourth-team honors a year ago.
