AUBURN, Ala. — A day after falling in the semifinals in doubles Flight A, LSU’s Staten Spencer and Mykala Hedberg bounced back to defeat Auburn’s Jil Hastenrath and Mary Claire Slade, 8-2 on the final day of the SEC Fall Coaches Classic Sunday.

In singles play sophomore Nicole Kantor dominated her consolation match against Tennessee’s Jennifer Meredith, 6-0, 6-2.

“We had a decent conclusion to the fall season,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “We faced a lot of adversity with injuries during the fall, but we have to get ready for the spring. We are looking forward to getting after it.”

After winning a consolation match Saturday, Kantor and Anastasiya Dubova fell in doubles Sunday against Sarah Woestmann and Alaina Trgovich of Kentucky, 8-2. Kylie Adamek and Sloane Mathis also faced stiff competition as the duo lost to Alabama’s Bianca Svensson and Merritt Emery, 8-3.

In other singles action, Hedberg fell to Tiffany Welcher of Alabama, 6-0, 7-5 despite a strong effort in the second set.

The Lady Tigers concluded the fall season and will next take the courts for the beginning of the spring season Jan. 18-20 at the Virginia Invitational.
