BATON ROUGE — Swimmer Julius Gloeckner and volleyball’s Brittnee Cooper were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week on Wednesday following a vote by a local media panel.
Gloeckner guided the Tigers to a dual-meet victory over Delta State last Friday in Baton Rouge, winning the 100 free (46.54), the 200 fly (1:51.07), and posting the top time in the 100 fly (49.58). All three times are season-bests for the junior from Freiburg, Germany, while both butterfly times rank among the top 10 in the SEC this season.
Cooper led LSU to a win over Notre Dame last week, recording her fourth double-figure blocking match of the season, with a career-high 13 blocks. The sophomore from Houston, Texas also posted a career-high 21 kills to go along with a career-best .613 hitting percentage.
On the week, Cooper hit .308 and averaged 2.69 kills per game and 1.46 blocks per game.
