BATON ROUGE — After holding the 12th annual BOOzar at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening, several LSU student-athletes selected the winner in a Halloween decorating contest at Arlington Prep Academy on Wednesday as the Tigers got into the holiday spirit.
The annual BOOzar was a huge success again this year with area families enjoying candy, fun and games with members of LSU’s athletics teams. Student-athletes, many of which are dressed in costumes, hand out candy to the children and sign autographs as the children participate in sports-centered games.
Members of the track and field and women’s gymnastics were selected to judge the Halloween door decorating contest at Arlington Prep Academy. The student-athletes went around the school and selected a winner and took photos with the students dressed in their best Halloween costumes.
The BOOzar is organized each year by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and the school visits are organized as part of the CHAMPS (Challenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success)/Life Skills Program. The CHAMPS program was designed by the NCAA to help student-athletes realize higher academic achievement, increase likelihood of graduation and enter a chosen profession with a higher level of vision, knowledge, motivation, self-responsibility and greater overall success. In spring 2003, the CHAMPS/ Life Skills Program at LSU was named in honor of Shaquille O’Neal, one of the Tigers’ most memorable graduates.
