BATON ROUGE — Quarterback Matt Flynn and middle blocker Brittnee Cooper were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week on Thursday following a vote by a local media panel.
Flynn led LSU to a 30-24 come from behind victory over 17th-ranked Auburn last Saturday, connecting with Demetrius Byrd on a 22-yard touchdown pass for the go ahead score with just one second left on the clock.
In all, Flynn directed LSU to scores on five of its six second-half possessions as the Tigers rallied from a 17-7 halftime deficit to record the win. The win marked the 18th straight for LSU in Tiger Stadium, pushing the squad past the previous school record mark of 17 set from 1935-1937.
On the night, Flynn set career highs for attempts (34), completions (22) and passing yards (319), and also tied his career-high in TD passes, with three.
Cooper helped LSU to a 2-0 record last week as the volleyball team recorded wins over Ole Miss and Arkansas to move into sole possession of first place in the SEC West.
Against Ole Miss, Cooper posted her third career double-double with 12 kills and 11 blocks. Her block performance ranked sixth all time on LSU’s block assists list for a four game match as well as seventh in total blocks.
The sophomore from Bellville, Ill., then registered a match-high five blocks in the win over Arkansas which put her with over 100 blocks for the season and 150 for her career.
