BATON ROUGE — Following a split weekend on the road in the Southeastern Conference, the nationally-ranked LSU soccer team has dropped five spots to No. 24 in the latest Soccer America Top 25 released by the publication Monday morning.
The Tigers are ranked for the second straight week as they cracked the national rankings for the first time in program a week ago by entering the Soccer America Top 25 at No. 19.
LSU (9-2-4, 3-1-2 SEC) wrapped up the third weekend of SEC play in sole possession of fourth place in the league standings at 11 points. The side suffered its first conference loss of the season on Friday by a 2-0 margin to Auburn and rebounded with a 2-1 win over Alabama on Sunday.
The Tigers trail only three teams in the race for the conference title as Georgia is in first place at 16 points, Auburn is in second place at 15 points and Tennessee is in third place at 13 points. Each team is also ranked in this week’s Soccer America Top 25 as Tennessee moves up one spot to No. 19, Georgia moves up two spots to No. 20 and Auburn enters the poll at No. 25.
The squad continues its four-game SEC road swing this weekend as it travels to Nashville, Tenn., on Friday to take on Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. CDT at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex, while it makes the trip to Lexington, Ky., on Sunday to battle Kentucky at noon at the UK Soccer Complex.
