Women’s Golf 11th Through Two Days in Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU Lady Tigers again found the first nine holes of the Cherokee Golf Course a bit of a problem as the Lady Tigers fell one spot to 11th after two rounds of the Mercedes-Benz Championships here Saturday.

The 28th-ranked Lady Tigers shot a 15-over par 299 on the par 71 layout to stand at 26-over 594 after 36 holes of the 54 hole event. LSU played holes 10-18 first in the second round, a nine-hole section they played in even par Friday after playing the front nine in 11 over par. Saturday, LSU’s counting four scores turned on the back nine at four-over par, before going to the front nine and counting 11 strokes over par.

Florida moved to the lead in the tournament after shooting a four-over round of 288 to stand at nine-over par 577 after two rounds. The Gators, ranked sixth in the country, leads Purdue and Arkansas (tied for second) by five shots.

Freshmen Megan McChrystal and Lindy LaBauve have a chance to post top 20 finishes with a solid round Sunday as both are presently in the top 20 after 36 holes. McChrystal followed a one over 72 with a two-over 73 to stand at four-over 145, while LaBauve, after opening with an even par 71, posted a four-over 75 to stand at five-over 146. McChrystal is in a group tied for 14th place in the individual standings while LaBauve is in a tie for 17th.

Kathleen Ekey of Alabama is the two-day individual leader at four-under par 138 (68-70). She leads Sandra Gal of Florida and Stacey Lewis of Arkansas by two shots.

LSU also counted on the second day a 75 from freshman Amalie Valle and a 76 from senior Alexis Rather.
