Despite Little Fan-fare, Byrd Leads Indians

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the Rodney Dangerfield of baseball.

Indians right-hander and former Tiger Paul Byrd gets no respect.

“I’m not tall. I’m right-handed. I’m balding. I don’t throw hard. And my breaking ball isn’t that great,” Byrd jokes.

Could Rodney have said it any better?

The baseball world screeches to a halt when Roger Clemens pitches, and reporters monitor every muscle twitch in his aging body.

Taxis won’t even screech to a halt when Byrd is scheduled to pitch, and reporters wonder why his team lets him near the park at all.

That’s right; Byrd couldn’t even hail a taxi to Yankee Stadium before clinching the Division Series for the Indians on Monday night.
