BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team continues to make its climb to the top of the Central Region as it has moved up one spot in the latest regional rankings released Tuesday following a successful opening weekend in the Southeastern Conference.
The Tigers have reached their highest ranking in program history as they move up one spot to No. 6 in this week’s Soccer Buzz Central Region Top 15, while they also move up one spot to No. 7 in the regional poll released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The side is off to its best start in school history with a 7-1-3 overall mark and has gotten off to a fast start in the SEC following a 1-0 shutout of Mississippi State on Friday night and a 1-1 draw with Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon.
With a draw against the second-ranked Texas Longhorns on Sept. 18 and wins over regionally-ranked Memphis and Miami earlier in the season, the Tigers find themselves in a position to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament as they are currently ranked No. 42 nationally in the latest tournament projection released by Top Drawer Soccer on Tuesday.
The Tigers welcome a pair of nationally-ranked opponents to the LSU Soccer Complex this weekend as they take on the sixth-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers on Friday at 7 p.m. and the 18th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday at 1 p.m.
