TULSA, Okla. — Seniors Kevin Dessauer and Jan Zelezny of the LSU men’s tennis team are set to compete in the doubles portion of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships held at the University of Tulsa on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Dessauer and Zelezny are more than ready to get back on the court after they, along with Colt Gaston, were eliminated in the opening singles qualifying round on Monday. Dessauer and Gaston will play one more singles match in the consolation bracket.
“We knew what kind of competition we would run into this week with this being one of the grand slam tournaments in college tennis,” LSU Associate Head Coach Mark Booras said. “We fell short in all of our singles matches today. We are looking forward to turning things around and picking up some wins in doubles.”
Dessauer, Gaston and Zelezny each faced a ranked opponent on Monday. Gaston took No. 71 Matthew Brooklyn of Arizona to three sets before falling by a, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, score.
The Tigers tandem of Dessauer and Zelezny compiled a 16-11 record last season. The duo defeated U.S. Open Junior Doubles Champions Jamie Hunt and Nate Schnugg of Georgia in the SEC Tournament last season.
