BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team wrapped up its second week of fall practice Saturday with a 7 a.m. training session at the LSU Soccer Complex and will now take part in its first full-length intrasquad scrimmage of camp Sunday at 7 p.m.
Head coach Brian Lee will divide his squad into two teams that will scrimmage for a full 90 minutes at the LSU Soccer Complex. The Tigers are in the final week of preparation for their season opener against Southern Miss on Friday at 7 p.m.
“We’re 15 practices in and we still have a lot to do in our final week of preparation for our season opener against Southern Miss next weekend,” Lee said. “We feel good about where we’re at right now, and the girls have worked very hard to get into top form over the last two weeks.”
Lee said that his team is excited about Sunday’s scrimmage and will use it as an opportunity to get accustomed to a game day environment with full-sided competition.
“We’re going to use this scrimmage as a chance to get used to a home event,” Lee said. “It’s the first chance that we’ve had to play full sided on our playing field, and it will also give the girls a chance to get their legs under them in a competitive environment. It should be a lot of fun.”
The Tigers open the season against Southern Miss on Friday at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex as they play host the LSU Classic. They will follow with their first ever meeting with in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Sept. 2 at 1:30 p.m., which is also scheduled for a live TV broadcast by Cox Sports Television.
Furman is also slated to compete at this year’s LSU Classic as they open the tournament against Louisiana Tech on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by a match with Southern Miss on Sept. 2 at 11 a.m.
