BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team wrapped up its first week of fall camp Saturday as head coach Brian Lee put his troops through a 90-minute training session at the LSU Soccer Complex with a series of full-length scrimmages beginning at 7 a.m.

Following a brief warm-up period, the Tigers divided into teams and squared off in a series of three 30-minute scrimmages. This comes on the heels of three consecutive two-a-day practices beginning with the opening of fall camp on Wednesday.

“We’ve had a great first week of practice, but there’s a lot of time before our first game and a lot more that we still need to accomplish in preseason camp,” Lee said. “It’s been an intense week of practice for our team. The girls are coming together and starting to grow as a team.

“I’ve been very pleased with their effort and fitness through the first four days of camp, and they get a well-deserved day off on Sunday before coming back on Monday with another two-a-day.”

The squad returns to the practice field on Monday with its fourth two-a-day practice of camp as it has 12 more training sessions scheduled before its season opener. It also has a two-a-day practice slated for Wednesday in preparation for its first full-length intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday.

The Tigers kick off the 2007 season at home as they play host to the LSU Classic with matches scheduled against Southern Miss on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. and its first ever match against in-state foe Louisiana Tech on Sept. 2 at 1:30 p.m. The match against Louisiana Tech is scheduled for a live television broadcast by Cox Sports Television.
