BATON ROUGE ? LSU head coach Brian Lee and his coaching staff welcomed 25 student-athletes to campus Tuesday as the soccer team is set to begin fall camp this week in preparation for its season opener against Southern Miss on Aug. 31.
The Tigers will compete with an experienced squad in 2007 as all 11 starters and 16 letterwinners return to form the most talented team in the 13-year history of the LSU soccer program.
“This is always an exciting time of year for us, and we’re looking forward to getting the team back on the field for our first practice tomorrow,” Lee said. “We’re going to pick up right where we left off in the spring as we also hope to integrate the newcomers into our system so that they can make an impact for us this season.”
The Tigers begin fall camp Wednesday with their first two-a-day practice at the LSU Soccer Complex as Lee will put his squad through its first training session at 7 a.m. followed by an afternoon session at 3 p.m. All practice sessions for the LSU soccer team are open to the public.
“We’re coming off of a tremendous spring season that gave our young team more experience competing against some of the best programs in the country,” Lee said. “Our players have also had a great offseason in our strength and conditioning program. We’re looking for that dedication to continue as we prepare for what is sure to be an exciting season for LSU soccer.”
The team opens the 2007 season by playing host to the LSU Classic from Aug. 31-Sept. 2 at the LSU Soccer Complex. The Tigers take on Southern Miss on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. CDT followed by a match against in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Sept. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
