Spots Open in O’Neal’s Annual Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE — Playing spots are still available for the annual Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Golf Classic presented by the Tiger Athletic Foundation set for its annual playing date, the day prior to LSU’s first home football game, this year on Friday, Sept. 7.

The tournament, scheduled for Carter Plantation, will have shotgun start rounds at both 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The event benefits the Shaquille O’Neal/CHAMPS program which holds eight events, more than 25 workshops and countless community service projects and trips each academic year for LSU student-athletes. Designed to help student-athletes realize higher academic achievement, increased likelihood of retention, a higher level of maturity, self-responsibility, and greater overall success, the Shaquille O’Neal/CHAMPS Life Skills program serves as a means to prepare student-athletes for life after college by focusing on academic excellence, athletic excellence, community service, personal development and career development.

Foursomes for the golf tournament will receive diddy bags and each team will have their picture taken with the former LSU All-American and Miami Heat NBA Superstar, who will be on hand for the event. There will be a plantation breakfast served prior to the 8:30 a.m. round and a Cajun lunch served to all players at noon. Plantation burgers will be served after the second round.

Awards will be given for: Net score, Gross score, closest to the pin, longest drive and hole in one.

Entry fee for a foursome is $800 ($200 a person) and payment must be made prior to check-in on tournament day. Hole sponsorships are available for $400. Entries are limited and more information and entry forms can be obtained by contacting the CHAMPS/Lifeskills Program office at 225-578-0385.
