Johansson Hired as Women’s Golf Assistant

BATON ROUGE — Golda Johansson, a former player at the University of Tennessee, has been named the new women’s assistant golf coach for the LSU Lady Tigers, head coach Karen Bahnsen announced on Wednesday.

Johansson comes to LSU from the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Sarasota, Fla., where she has served as outside service professional since January of this year.

Johansson graduated from Tennessee in December 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. She was a four-year letter winner at UT, earning second team All-SEC honors in 2006 and she was a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

“We are very excited about Golda joining our women’s golf program,” said LSU women’s golf head coach Karen Bahnsen, who will be entering her 24th year as the LSU coach. “She will be a big help to us in all aspects of the program and has the skills and the recent success in the sport to relate to our players what must be done to be successful.”

Johansson replaces Allison Akin in the assistant’s position. Akin was hired by the LPGA last month as a tournament rules official.

Johansson also participated on the Swedish National Golf Team and won first place in the 2002 Girls Team European Championship in Stockholm, Sweden.

The 24-year-old new LSU assistant is engaged to be married to Steve Borst later this month.
