BATON ROUGE — With the 2007 soccer season just around the corner, LSU fans have the opportunity to reserve their season tickets at the LSU Soccer Complex for what is sure to be a historic season for the Tigers this fall.
Fans can purchase season tickets for all eight home games online at www.LSUsports.net as reserved seating in the midfield bleacher backs are $40 and general admission tickets are $25. Renewal forms for current season ticket holders are due by Aug. 2.
“We have an opportunity to take this program to another level in 2007, and our great fans will play an important role in that,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “By reserving their season tickets, they will have a chance to see some outstanding college soccer with many of the nation’s best players in action each week.”
Highlighting this year’s home schedule is a match against the nationally-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers on Oct. 5. The Lady Vols advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago and finished the 2006 season ranked as high as No. 23 in the country by Soccer Times.
The Tigers kick off the 2007 campaign at home as they square off against Southern Miss on Aug. 31 followed by their first match in school history against in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Sept. 2. They wrap up their home non-conference slate against in-state foe McNeese State on Sept. 14.
LSU will look to get off to a fast start in the SEC as it opens league play with a four-game homestand featuring matches against Western Division rivals Mississippi State on Sept. 28 and Ole Miss on Sept. 30 and Eastern Division foes Tennessee on Oct. 5 and Georgia on Oct. 7. It wraps up its home conference slate against South Carolina on Oct. 25.
The Tigers are poised to make their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament as they will compete this fall with the most talented team in the program’s 13-year history. The team returns all 11 starters from last season and welcomes the services of several highly-touted newcomers.
Leading the way for the Tigers will be former Freshman All-Americans Michelle Makasini and Chelsea Potts, who became the first Tigers in program history to earn All-America honors a year ago. Potts also received Second-Team All-SEC honors along with junior forward Roslyn Jones.
“This is without a doubt the best collection of players on one team in the history of LSU soccer,” Lee said. “We’re coming off of a tremendous spring season in which the girls dedicated themselves to fitness and their overall improvement, and I have no doubt that they will continue to show that maturity as we get ready for the regular season.”
