Three LSU SID’s Wins LSWA Top Honors

BATON ROUGE — Three members of the LSU Sports Information Office won first place awards in the contest among state SIDs announced Friday at the conclusion of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association convention held in Baton Rouge.

Assistant AD/SID Michael Bonnette, Sr. Associate SID Kent Lowe and Associate SID Brian Miller all won first place awards at the final dinner of the three-day event held in the Westside Stadium Club at Tiger Stadium.

Bonnette won his award for top Fact Sheet for an event. The judge made the following comments on the winning entry: “The football fact sheet on LSU-Arkansas contains a huge, almost imposing amount of information. But because everything is so well organized, including a media services sheet on the back of the front page, the release is a snap to navigate. It’s nice to have easy-to-read graphics for older writers who have fading eyesight.”

Lowe won the Division I Media Guide (football, men’s basketball, baseball) for his 2006-07 Men’s Basketball Guide. The judge said of the winning entry: “Excellent writing, very nice layout and easy to find the information. In the words of an old CoSIDA Hall of Famer, ‘very clean.’ ”

Miller’s women’s basketball guide won top honors in the state in Division II Media Guide and his book caused the judge to remark: “Finally, an SID who gets that a media guide is first for the media, then secondly a recruiting tool. In the first five pages of an info-packed book, you get table of contents, quick facts with phone numbers, a schedule and travel plans and a roster. Simple things make a difference.”

Bonnette also won a third place for his football guide in Division I, while Lowe won a third for best release. Miller was second in Division II Fact Sheet.
