BATON ROUGE — Kevin Dessauer of the LSU men’s tennis team was named to the ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-America First Team by the College Sports Information Director’s of America, the organization announced Wednesday.
Dessauer, a New Orleans native, held a perfect 4.0 grade point average in Kinesiology. The SEC Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year is one of six student-athletes from the Southeastern Conference to receive the honor and one of three to be named first team.
“Kevin has his priorities in line and he manages his time extraordinarily well,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “He is preparing himself for his future beyond athletics.”
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, and reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his or her current institution.
Dessauer had his best year as a Tiger this season as he earned second-team All-SEC honors and compiled a 23-10 record in singles and 23-13 mark in doubles.
The Academic All-America program annually honors over 1,600 student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level in athletics and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
