BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU senior Kim Meck won her quarterfinal match Thursday morning before falling in the semifinals of the 2007 Women’s Southern Amateur being played at the Riverchase Country Club.
Meck becomes the second LSU player to reach the semifinals in the last three years joining Alexis Rather, also a senior this coming year at LSU, who was a semifinalist in 2005.
Meck advanced over Stanford golfer Rebecca Durham in the quarterfinal round, 2 up, putting her in a semifinal match against the No. 1 qualifier, NCAA champion Stacey Lewis of Arkansas. Lewis was a 2 and 1 quarterfinal winner over Jacqui Concolino of Vanderbilt in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinal match, Lewis was a 5 and 4 winner. Lewis will meet veteran golf star, Virginia Derby Grimes, a three-time Curtis Cup member from Meridian, Miss., for the title in a 36-hole final on Friday.

In Orlando, Fla., LSU freshman-to-be Megan McChrystal of Stuart, Fla., won the first Collegiate Players Tour event of 2007 at the Orange County National course.
McChrystal handled the par 72 course well, putting the tournament in her pocket with an opening round of 6-under 66 before finishing with rounds of 74-72 for a three-day total of 4-under 212. She won by 10 strokes over Wellington, Fla., golfer Jade Bollinger at 6-over 222 (72-75-75).
The CPT has events throughout the country for collegiate golfers through the month of August including a stop later this month, June 25-27, at Pelican Point outside Baton Rouge.
