Men’s Tennis Media Guide Voted Nation’s Best

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 2007 men’s tennis media guide was selected as the top tennis guide in the nation, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) in the organization’s yearly contest.

The 64-page media guide was one of 29 entries in this year’s contest. It was written and edited by SID student assistant Alex Restrepo and designed by publications student assistant Brandon Jantz and publications director Jason Feirman with photography by staff photographer Steve Franz.

The LSU men’s tennis guide finished second in the nation last season.

“The guide is not only an information source to the media but is a great recruiting tool,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “It is a great window to our program and is a high-quality source to archive the history of our program. Alex did a good job this season. I have been coaching at LSU for 14 years and Alex did as good of a job as we have had.”

The guide serves as a comprehensive source of up-to-date information on the 2006-07 team, including bios, records and history through the 87 years of the program.

The guide’s No. 1 billing is one of many honors for this year’s team.  The Tigers received some of the nation’s top awards in athletics, academics and community service this season. Three Tigers were selected as ITA All-Americans, Danny Bryan, Colt Gaston and Ken Skupski. Associate head coach was selected as the ITA/National Assistant Coach of the Year and Brown was named Louisiana Coach of the Year.

In academics, the Tigers were the only Southeastern Conference tennis team to receive a perfect 1000 Academic Progress Rate score. Additionally, junior Kevin Dessauer was selected as SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Bryan showcased the Tigers commitment to community service as he received the ITA/Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship.

Media guides serve as a source of information to media outlets and fellow sports information offices, as well as a valuable recruiting tool for coaches.

The judging is based on eight categories including team information, season in review, program history, general information, conference information, graphics and design and editorial. The guides are critiqued by three pre-selected judges from outside organizations.

CoSIDA is an organization that is designed to help SIDs at all levels.  The purpose of the organization is to empower its members in their roles as sports information professionals.
