BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU senior golfer Kim Meck had to go two extra holes before getting a victory on the 20th hole of play to win 1-up in her round of 16 match Wednesday in the Riverchase Country Club at Birmingham, Ala.
Meck defeated Sarah Sturm, who played for the Alabama Crimson Tide, to advance to the quarterfinals where she will meet Rebecca Durham, a 4-and-3 winner over Ann Pohira in her round of 16 match.
LSU senior Alexis Rather was unable to keep pace with one of the hottest golfers around these days as NCAA Champion Stacy Lewis of the University of Arkansas ended Rather’s run with a 7-and-6 match play victory.
LSU freshman Nicole Crochet, in the championship flight consolation round after losing in the first round on Tuesday, advanced to the consolation quarterfinals by default over Lauren Mielbrecht.
