BATON ROUGE — Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team was selected as one of four nominees for the 2006-07 Tennis Honda Sports Award, the organization announced this week.

Along with Falcon, Audra Cohen of Miami, Lindsey Nelson of USC and Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor were selected as nominees for the prestigious award.

After nation-wide balloting among NCAA member schools, Cohen was selected as the recipient of the award. However, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. will donate $1,000 to the women’s athletic fund of each nominee’s university.

“It’s a nice honor to be considered for this award,” Falcon said. “It is always nice to be recognized when you are dedicated to something and put in a lot of time and effort. Throughout the school year, I put in a lot of hard work with trying to balance school and tennis.  As much of a competitor as I am in tennis, I work just as hard in school because I understand that academics comes first. ”

Falcon received the nomination after an outstanding debut as a Lady Tiger. The Alameda, Calif. native was the first Lady Tiger in team history to reach the NCAA semifinals. The ITA All-American went undefeated during the regular season at the No. 1 slot on her way to being named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year. Her final No. 2 ranking in singles is the highest in team history. Falcon appeared twice in the final doubles rankings with Hannah Robinson (No. 35) and Mykala Hedberg (No. 45.) Falcon was selected as the ITA Co-National Player to Watch. In the fall, she won the ITA All-American Consolation title.
