BATON ROUGE — LSU track and field assistant coach Boo Schexnayder is among those honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the organization released its list of the nation’s top assistant coaches Saturday.
The USTFCCCA has honored the top men’s and women’s assistant coaches in each of the nation’s four regions in such categories as sprints/hurdles, distances, jumps/combined events and throws. Coaches from each region voted on the basis of indoor and outdoor accomplishments.
Schexnayder, who is in his 12th season coaching the jumps and combined events at LSU, has been named the top women’s assistant coach in the Mideast Region in his specialty.
Under his guidance, junior Andrea Linton won her first career Southeastern Conference title in the triple jump at the outdoor conference meet, while she has also qualified for the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in both the long jump and triple jump.
In addition, senior Shaunette Davidson (high jump), junior Kathy Coleman (long jump) and freshman Katelyn Rodrigue (pole vault) are also set to compete at the NCAA Championships next week after scoring valuable points in leading the Lady Tigers to SEC Outdoor and NCAA Mideast Regional titles this season.
