BATON ROUGE — Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team remained at No. 2 in the national singles rankings, the highest ranking in LSU women’s tennis history, the ITA announced on Friday.
Falcon, an Alameda, Calif. native, reached the semifinal round of the NCAA Individual Championships in Athens, Ga. this past weekend. She is the first Lady Tiger in team history to reach the NCAA semifinals.
In 2000, former Lady Tiger Bruna Colosio finished No. 9 in the final ITA rankings before finishing No. 11 in 2001.
The ITA All-American went undefeated during the regular season at the No. 1 slot on her way to being named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year. Her No. 2 ranking in singles is the highest in team history.
Falcon was selected as the ITA Co-National Player to Watch. In the fall she won the ITA All-American Consolation title.
Falcon finished her first year of college tennis with an unprecedented 38-3 record, as she held a 28 match win streak heading into the semifinal round of the NCAA tournament.
Falcon is also ranked twice in doubles at No. 35 with freshman Hannah Robinson and at No. 45 with sophomore Mykala Hedberg.
Falcon and Robinson made it to the NCAA Individuals tournament as a duo; however, they fell in the first round. The pair finished the season with a 14-6 record. Falcon and Hedberg own a 9-4 record at the No. 1 slot in dual play.
Falcon has recently been selected as one of four nominees for the Honda Sports Award, which determines the top collegiate athlete in each particular sport.
