Bradford, Stein Named LSU Athletes of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Pitcher Jared Bradford and second baseman Shannon Stein were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week on Wednesday following a vote by a local media panel.

Bradford became the SEC leader in wins last week with two victories over third-ranked Arkansas in Fayetteville. Bradford (10-2, 7-1 SEC) earned a relief win on Friday night and a victory as a starter on Sunday to lead the Tigers to their third series win this season against a top 15 team.

Bradford, a junior from Hueytown, Ala., fired 39 pitches in three innings on Friday night as LSU recorded a 6-5 win. He registered no walks and three strikeouts and worked a perfect ninth inning after the Tigers had broken a 5-5 tie in the top of the frame.

Bradford returned to the mound as a starter on Sunday, throwing 85 pitches in five innings of work, while limiting the Razorbacks to two runs on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Stein recorded a hit in all three of LSU’s games against Georgia last week, helping the Tigers claim their eighth SEC Western Division championship. The junior from Upland, Calif., hit .400 and was a perfect 10-of-10 in the field on the weekend.

In addition, Stein recorded her first home run in a Tiger uniform with a two-run shot in game two’s win. She was also responsible for the game-winning runs that scored when she reached base on an error.
