BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team remained in the top 15 for the ninth straight week as it listed at No. 15 in the latest rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.
The poll is the final one before the NCAA hands out its post-season bids. The Tigers (16-6, 7-4 SEC) are in strong contention to receive a bid to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament as the NCAA normally awards the 16 highest-ranked teams in the country host bids. The selections are announced Tuesday on ESPNews at 1:30 p.m. CDT.
LSU is one of seven Southeastern Conference schools that appeared in the top 30. Other SEC schools include Georgia (No. 1), Ole Miss (No. 7), Alabama (No. 18), Florida (No. 19), Tennessee (No. 25) and Auburn (No. 29).
In doubles rankings, LSU’s top duo of Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston appeared at No. 4. Bryan and Gaston have totaled a team high 21 wins this season, including six against ranked pairs.
James Cluskey and Ken Skupski are at No. 22 in doubles rankings. The Tiger tandem has won five of their last six matches.
In singles, Skupski held on to his No. 24 ranking. The Liverpool, England native has notched 11 wins over ranked opponents this season.
Bryan appeared at No. 32. The First-Team All-SEC selection had an impressive outing at the SEC Tournament by capturing two straight-set victories against ranked opponents, including No. 12-ranked Travis Helgeson of Georgia.
Junior Kevin Dessauer is at No. 94 in the rankings. The SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year boasts a 15-5 record in dual play this season.
