BATON ROUGE — Diving coach Doug Shaffer announced the signing of Michael Neubacher, one of the top prospects in the state of Florida, on Friday.
Neubacher, a native of Windermere, Fla., prepped at Olympia High School and is a two-time FHSAA Class 3A state runner-up. He is also a three-time high school All-American, a Junior Olympic finalist and a Senior National qualifier.
“Michael has a wealth of talent and potential and can be a top performer at the conference and national levels,” said Shaffer. “He’s an experienced three-event diver who will have an immediate impact on our program and a bright future as a student athlete at LSU.”
Neubacher placed as high as seventh in the platform at the Junior Olympic competition. He recently finished first in the 1-meter and second in the 3-meter at the Junior Olympic Spring Regional Championships.
Neubacher is slated to participate in the Junior Olympic National Championships, April 27-29, in Coral Springs, Fla.
Neubacher enrolls at LSU for the fall semester and joins a talented roster for the 2007-08 season. All-American Niko Dalman returns from a medical redshirt season, joining Nathan Schreiber and Kalister Harmon.
“We are fortunate to have Michael’s commitment,” added Shaffer. “Michael will contribute to the strongest men’s diving squad I’ve had the opportunity to coach at LSU.”
