BATON ROUGE — LSU reserve guard Ben Voogd has announced that he will leave the men’s basketball team and will look to transfer to a school closer to his home.
Voogd, from Florence, Ore., played 63 games in two years for LSU, starting one game his freshman season. He averaged 11.6 minutes per game, averaging a career total of 1.2 points per game. He posted 108 assists and was 7-of-22 from the arc (31.8 percent). His career high game was this past season of 12 points against McNeese State on Nov. 29, 2006.
“Ben is a fine young man,” said LSU Coach John Brady. “I understand what he is looking for. I’ll support Ben in whatever he wants to do because he’s a good person who has meant a lot to me and our program for the last two years. It’s all about playing time and he wants to play more and be able to play closer to home.”
Voogd played on teams in 2006 and 2007 that won a combined total of 43 games and was a freshman on the 2006 SEC Championship and NCAA Final Four team.
