BATON ROUGE — LSU freshman designated hitter/outfielder Blake Dean was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week Monday by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.
Dean, a native of Crestview, Fla., paced the Tigers in hitting last week, leading LSU to three wins in four games. Dean batted .529 (9-for-17) on the week with two doubles, one triple, one homer, four RBI and four runs.
He hit .429 (6-for-14) in LSU’s series victory over No. 13 Ole Miss with one double, one homer, three RBI and three runs. Dean also extended his hitting streak to 18 games ? he is hitting .405 (30-for-74) during the streak with six doubles, one triple, one homer, 11 RBI and 12 runs.
Dean is LSU’s leading hitter this season, batting .355 (50-for-141) on the year with 11 doubles, three triples, three homers, 30 RBI and 22 runs scored.
Dean is the second LSU player to earn the SEC Freshman of the Week designation. Centerfielder Jared Mitchell received the honor on February 26.
