BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team takes a break from Southeastern Conference play as they welcome No. 61 Marshall and Prairie View A&M to W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium on Thursday at Noon CT and 5 p.m., respectively.
The Lady Tigers (13-7, 5-5 in the SEC) are coming off a very successful weekend as they were able to capture the lead the in the SEC Western Division by defeating Alabama on Friday and Auburn on Sunday.
Marshall is coming off a 5-2 win over Pittsburgh and a 7-0 sweep of Cincinnati on Saturday. The Thundering Herd are 14-10 overall. They are only 1-8 in matches on the road, while LSU is 7-4 in matches at home.
“Marshall has had a nice season so far. They are a good team. There are so many good teams out there that we need to be ready for anybody we compete against,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “Marshall is 14-10; they have had some nice wins against Ohio St. and some other schools. We need to come in and be ready to play. We just need to try and keep up our momentum, stay focused and do the right things.”
No. 67 Kellie Schmitt leads the Thundering Herd with an18-5 record in the No. 1 slot in dual play. She and her partner, Lynzee Kever, are ranked No. 56 in doubles. Karolina Soor is 16-5 in the No.2 slot for Marshall.
Sophomore Megan Falcon leads the Lady Tigers. She owns a 29-2 overall record, 19-0 in the No. 1 slot in dual play and has beaten 17 ranked opponents. Mykala Hedberg is 10-9 in the No. 2 slot and Nicole Kantor has improved her mark to .500 as she plays the No. 3 slot for LSU.
Following the Marshall match, which begins at Noon CT, the Lady Tigers will make-up a match with Prairie View A&M that was rained out earlier in the season at 5 p.m. LSU leads the series with the Lady Panthers, 1-0.
