BATON ROUGE — LSU gymnast Ashleigh Clare-Kearney earned further recognition for her exceptional performance against Centenary just over two weeks ago as Sports Illustrated has listed her among its, “Faces in the Crowd,” in its April 9 issue that is appearing on newsstands now.
Against Centenary Clare-Kearney either won outright or shared each of the four individual events titles en route to the meet’s all-around crown as she tallied an astounding 39.775. The score, a career-best and the fourth best in LSU history, is the highest all-around total in NCAA competition this season.
In addition, the Manchester, Conn., native posted career-high marks on three of the four events, turning in top scores of 9.975 on the floor, 9.925 on the beam and 9.900 on the bars.
For her efforts, Clare-Kearney was also named the SEC Gymnast of the Week for the third time this season. She also jumped to No. 1 in the national all-around rankings.
Clare-Kearney and the LSU gymnastics team return to action this Saturday when they travel to Morgantown, W. Va., for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships.
