BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team jumped up one spot to No. 12 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Tuesday.
The Tigers (14-5, 6-4 SEC) split their two home matches this past weekend. On Friday, The Tigers handily defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide, 5-2. Senior Ken Skupski captured his 100th career singles win to clinch the victory. On Sunday, LSU could not hold onto a 3-0 lead against Auburn as they dropped the final four singles matches to fall by a 4-3 score.
Along with LSU, other Southeastern Conference teams listed in the top 25 include Georgia (No. 1), Ole Miss (No. 7), Alabama (No. 15), Florida (No. 17) and Tennessee (No. 23.)
Individual rankings were not released this week. The Tigers represent three players in singles rankings with Skupski (No. 24), Danny Bryan (No. 34) and Kevin Dessauer (No. 76.) All three Tigers have compiled at least 20 wins this season.
LSU has been dominant in doubles play this season as they have won the doubles point 15 out of their 19 matches. Additionally, the Tigers have swept the doubles portion eight times this season.
Two LSU duos are ranked in the top 20. Bryan and Colt Gaston are listed at No. 7. The duo has won 30 of their last 32 matches. The team of James Cluskey and Skupski are listed at No. 19. The Tiger tandem has won four-straight matches.
LSU’s regular season finale is this Saturday at 1 p.m. against Arkansas. LSU’s three seniors, Bryan, Eric DeRoche and Skupski, will be recognized during the match.
