BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. — The LSU women’s golf team got off to a slow start that knocked them down in the standings of the Bryan National Collegiate Friday at the Bryan Park Golf Course.

The start was unlike LSU’s last appearance in the NCAA East Regional when the Tigers shot even par in the first two rounds, but like LSU’s start in last year’s Bryan National event when LSU struggled from the beginning.

LSU started primarily on holes 10-18 in the shotgun start and turned at 15-over par, before righting the ship somewhat on the front nine to post an eight-over total.

The 25th-ranked Lady Tigers finished up at 23-over par 311 in 15th place in the 18-team tournament. Purdue, playing with only four players, posted a two-over 290 with North Carolina 291 and Duke at 292. LSU had just 15 pars and three birdies in the 36 counting holes to open the round.

Caroline Martens posted the best score for LSU on the day with a four-over 76, while Melissa Eaton and Kim Meck both had five-over 77s.

The individual leader is Jenna Pearson of South Carolina at four-under 68.

The second round is set to begin at 10 a.m. CDT and live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
