BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Dani Hofer and Northwestern State’s Margaret Patterson were named the Louisiana Pitcher and Hitter of the Week respectively, it was announced by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association on Tuesday.
Hofer went 1-0 with a save for LSU against No. 2 Alabama on the week. Against the Crimson Tide on Saturday, she allowed four runs, three earned, while striking out seven in the extra-inning win, the highest ranked team she has defeated in her career.
The sophomore from Safety Harbor, Fla., came back on Sunday to earn her second career save. Inn the seventh with the tying run at the plate and no outs, she retired all three batters she faced to close out the game, including a game ending strikeout.
Patterson helped the Demons sweep Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas last week. The senior from Mandeville hit .545 with nine total bases for a .818 slugging percentage. In addition, she recorded three RBIs, scored three runs and pounded one home run.
This marks the third Louisiana Pitcher of the Week honor for Hofer this year. It is the first Louisiana Hitter of the Week honor for Patterson this season.
