Soccer Continues Spring Season in North Carolina

BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team continues its spring season this weekend with a trip down Tobacco Road in North Carolina to take on a pair of ACC powers as it is scheduled to face Wake Forest on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a match against Duke on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Tigers are slated to take on the Demon Deacons on Friday at W. Dennie Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, while they will play the Blue Devils on Sunday at Koskinen Stadium in Durham.

“Wake Forest and Duke are perennial top-20 programs year in and year out,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “Tony (da Luz) and Robbie (Church) are two of the finest coaches in America and their teams will present a great challenge for our young squad. We’ve had an outstanding spring thus far, and we’re looking forward to two great games this weekend.”

Both squads enjoyed successful seasons this past fall as each were ranked among the nation’s best programs while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in November.

The Demon Deacons were ranked as high as No. 9 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 poll before finishing the season at No. 19 with a 16-6-1 overall record. The Blue Devils earned a signature win over third-ranked Florida State on Oct. 22 and finished with a record of 9-8-4 after starting the season as high as No. 12 in the country in the national rankings.

The Tigers will return to the LSU Soccer Complex next week for their only home game of the spring season as they take on in-state rival Northwestern State on Tuesday in a match scheduled for 7 p.m. The spring season concludes March 31 against Ole Miss as the Tigers will take on the Rebels at 4:30 p.m. at the Freedom Ridge Soccer Complex in Ridgeland, Miss.
