LSU Sports Radio Network Set for Day-Long Programming

BATON ROUGE — The LSU Sports Radio Network will be stretched to the limit on Saturday as over 12 hours of Tiger athletics will be featured on the network, beginning at 11 a.m. with a one-hour pregame show leading up to the Super Tiger Bowl in Tiger Stadium.

In all, five events will originate from the LSU Sports Radio Network, which includes a football game, a baseball game, two softball games and the Lady Tigers basketball game against Florida State in the NCAA Tournament.

“I don’t know that this has ever been done on our network and I’m not sure if there are any other schools that could pull off what we are doing on Saturday,” the Voice of the Tigers Jim Hawthorne said. “This is certainly a rarity. The only way that we can make this work is that Guaranty Broadcasting gives us the two more stations so we now have enough room on the radio dial to put all of our events”

Kicking off Saturday’s programming on the network will be the one-hour football pregame show beginning at 11 a.m. on 100.7 FM in Baton Rouge. Hawthorne and Doug Moreau will co-host the pregame show, which will take place in Tiger One and will be staged outside the Maravich Assembly Center.

Hawthorne and Moreau will then head across to the street to Tiger Stadium to call all of the action from the Super Tiger Bowl (spring football game) starting at noon.

Kent Lowe and Jeff Palermo will call the softball action as ninth-ranked LSU hosts second-ranked Alabama at Tiger Park beginning at 1 p.m. in the first of two games between the teams on Saturday. The softball pregame show starts at 12:45 p.m. and can be heard in the Baton Rouge area on 104.5 and 104.9 FM.

Paul Mainieri‘s LSU baseball team hosts Kentucky in a Southeastern Conference series starting at 4 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium. Charles Hanagriff and Dan Canaveri will call the action from Alex Box Stadium starting with the pregame show at 3:45 p.m. The LSU-Kentucky baseball can be heard in the Baton Rouge area on 98.1 FM.

Finally, Patrick Wright, the Voice of the Lady Tigers, and Brian Miller will be in Fresno, Calif., to describe the action as LSU faces Florida State in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Tipoff for the Lady Tigers and Seminoles is slated for 10:30 p.m. CT with the pregame show to hit the air at 10 p.m. on 107.3 FM.

All of Saturday’s action can also be heard on the Internet in the Geaux Zone on LSUsports.net.
