MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Sophomore Julius Gloeckner recorded All-America honors for the second straight day and helped the LSU men’s swimming and diving team to an overall 28th-place finish on the final day of the 2007 NCAA Championships.
The Tigers tallied 15 points in the three-day meet, which was all attained by Gloeckner. Auburn secured another national title with a convincing 566-397 victory over Stanford.
Gloeckner bested his own school record in the 200 butterfly on Saturday and in the process placed sixth in the consolation final and 14th overall to receive honorable mention All-America accolades. He shattered his old mark of 1:45.37 in a time of 1:45.26 in the prelims and then swam a clocking of 1:45.65 in the finals.
For Gloeckner, it was his third career All-America swim. He placed seventh in the championship final of the 400 individual medley on Friday.
Junior Miko Malberg posted a career-fast time in the 50 freestyle prelims, clocking a mark of 44.15 to place 37th.
As a team, LSU improved 12 spots from its 40th place finish a year ago in Atlanta. The Tigers have posted top-30 NCAA finishes in 15 out of the past 16 seasons.
