BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team takes a break from its tough Southeastern Conference schedule to face the University of Minnesota on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT. They will follow this match with a make-up against Southern University at 7 p.m.
The Southern contest was previously scheduled for the opening match of the season Jan. 27, but rain forced it to be pushed back to this date.
“The University of Minnesota is a solid team,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “They are having a very nice season, so this is a good opportunity for us to take a little break from SEC play and hopefully regain some confidence and go after a couple of good squads.”
The Lady Tigers own a 6-5 record; 1-3 in the SEC.
“This is the most talent we have had in a long time, and they are really competitive. Every team we have played we have had opportunities and been in the match,” Minnis said. “Through the course of the season you are going to have your ups and downs, and we just have to stick together and play hard through the next few matches.”
LSU leads Minnesota 3-0 in the all-time series. The last meeting came in 1992 as LSU defeated the Golden Gophers, 7-2.
Against Southern, the Lady Tigers lead 7-0 in the all-time series as LSU swept the Jaguars in the last meeting Jan. 29, 2006.
The Lady Tigers will face another non-conference opponent in Tulsa on Friday.
