BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team was not selected as one of the 24 at-large teams for the 2007 National Invitation Tournament Sunday night, ending the Tigers 2006-07 season.
LSU finishes with an overall record of 17-15, its sixth consecutive winning season making it the third longest run of consecutive winning seasons in the program’s 99-year history.
“The players wanted to play again and I would have loved to have coached them again, but our focus is always going to be playing in the NCAAs, and we’re not doing that because of what we weren’t able to accomplish this season. You find yourself where you are by what you have done or not done, and we are where we are because we didn’t seize the opportunities in front of us all season long,” said LSU Coach John Brady after the NIT pairings were announced on ESPN2.
The Tigers finished their 2006-07 season with a 1-1 slate at the SEC Tournament in Atlanta, beating No. 22 Tennessee in overtime before losing to Ole Miss.
The Rebels, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi State will represent the SEC in the NIT.
